I love to travel. I’m reasonably well traveled but I have not traveled as much as I’d like. Isn’t that how every American
feels? Anyway, living in LA, we get bombarded by new movie promotions. The big movie promotion going on right now is for Julia Roberts’ Eat Pray Love, which ignited my yearning for world travel.*
The plot is about a women who is going through a transition period in her life and decides to up and leave for a year and travel to Italy, India, and Bali. That is a dream of mine; to one day decide that it’s time to get up and travel the world. In the movie Julia Roberts’ character travels alone, which I’ve done. Traveling alone is an amazing experience. It forces discovery that one might not have had with a partner. You meet so many more interesting people when you have no one. Had I not traveled alone, I would not have met the Canadian teacher with whom I made an impromptu visit to Langkawi, Malaysia. Nor would I have climbed Mt. Kinabalu with an English doctor or a Japanese jet fighter pilot. I doubt I would have met a group of Australian bros and sipped beers on a boat, under the stars in Halong Bay, Vietnam. What great memories I have because I traveled alone.
Alas, now is not the time for me to travel the world. I’m embarking on a different journey of discovery, which LA Idiot readers are a part of. I’m looking for success professionally and personally. I don’t have time to re-live my post college escapades of hopping from one hostel to another. Hopefully one day, I’ll be in a situation where I can take time off and travel the world with the woman I love. As much as I loved traveling alone, I want to share the joy of new cultural experiences with someone special. That’s something that always brings a smile to my face.
#LawyerGirl is leaving for a 2 week trip to Barcelona, Paris, Greece, and India, which also sparked my lust for world travel. I wonder if she’ll send me a post card so I can live vicariously through her travels?
i’m traveling to spain in september for a 10 day trip! you can live vicariously through me as well
Jealous! My mom was just in Spain. Send me a postcard! Or blog about it on your blog. BTW: Welcome to my blog
if you send me your address i will definitely send you a postcard! and i will absolutely blog about it! and thank you, good to be here!
Haha. Ok. I’ll DM it to you on Twitter. Fo reals
Ahh I’d give my left nut if I had one to travel all over the world like that!! I want to travel soooo bad!!! Farthest I’ve been was Hawaii : / I could sit here forever watching that movie trailer and just dream about traveling the world. Running into men that look like James Franco and Javier Bardem…well I’d give my right nut.
P.S. I’ve watched it like 5 times now and I love the song, it’ll probably be in my head all day.
The song is Florence + The Machine “Dog Days Are Over” in case you were wondering.
You should travel to MKE… very exotic…. full of puma’s….
LA Idiot should travel to Philadelphia. I can introduce you to PA idiots. I can promise at least 4-5 …hundred idiots on just your first day.
I, unlike most others, don’t have much desire to go anywhere outside of the US. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I watched Brokedown Palace, and those girls got busted with Cocaine in their backpacks and ended up in a Thai prison.
I’ve travelled a bit (Italy, Greece, France, England, USA) but definitely not ENOUGH. I can’t wait to do some more travelling as soon as life permits. I’ve always felt that there are certain things that I would be ok not doing in this life (ie. getting married) however, I would always regret not seeing as much of the world as possible (ie. at least visit every continent!).
I have family in PA. I know what you mean
Can you ever travel enough? Even if you go to a country once, there are so many new things to experience. Heck, there is sooo much of the United States I haven’t explored yet, and I’ve probably spent the night over half the states.
I love traveling & if I ever win the lotto I’m off like a prom dress to Morocco or Singapore or Australia or wherever. I’m also up for adventure when traveling.
How ’bout we road trip to the Grand Canyon & go skydiving?
http://www.ziazitella.wordpress.com
Singapore is a fun time! I remember I ate at a Taco Bell there because it was the first time I had seen one in a year. haha.
I am totally down to go to the Grand Canyon and skydive.
First of all, you’re quite handsome in those pictures. Secondly, I’ve always wanted to travel alone but still have to work up the courage to actually do it. It’s on my life list
First, I LOVE Eat Pray Love. But I think the whole world does right now.
Second, I’ve always been fascinated by the thought of traveling alone. I WILL do it someday. But I’m admittedly terrified.
It is scary…especially for a girl. Not to be sexist…but you probably would have thought twice about jumping in a car with a Malaysian family after meeting them for 5 minutes and having lunch at their house.
I say travel…alone or with someone. But traveling alone brings a new dynamic to the experience. and yes, I look quite handsome…i’ve got the Derek Zoolander Blue Steel down
I think the chances of you getting a postcard or seven from #lawyergirl are pretty good.
